The lot features a Crow Native American Indian Buffalo parfleche rawhide polychrome pigment painted flat envelope case attributed to being from the 19th Century. The piece shows a geometric polychrome mineral pigment painted traditional design done on heavy Parfleche Rawhide created from a Buffalo Hide. The case shows wonderful construction and a traditional early classic design. The piece has modern Indian tanned hide ties as shown. This comes from a historical Old Western and Native American Indian collection in Bozeman, Montana. The piece has a similar design and age to that of a few classic pieces listed at previous auctions such as the Cheyenne Parfleche listed at Heritages 6/14/2008 auction for $18,000 to $22,000, the Plains Parfleche case sold for $3,250 at Allard’s 8/13/2011 auction, and the Crow Parfleche Envelope that sold for $2,500 at Brian Lebel’s Old West Show & Auction 6/25/2011. The piece appears to be in fine original condition with no major damage and excellent displayed polychrome mineral paint. Measures 27”H x 13.5”W x 2”D.
