The lot features a fantastic beaded hide scout men’s jacket from the Cree Plains Native American Indians dating to the late 19th Century. This 1800’’s jacket shows an Indian brain tanned Rocky Mountain Elk hide showing period correct whimsical floral glass trade seed beadwork, old trade clothe, long hand cut hide fringe and a Beaver fur trim. The jacket shows a men’s size, likely from an Indian Scout due to its “white-man” influences such as the shape, pockets, collar, and cuffs. The coat shows panels of whimsical floral beadwork in all glass trade seed beads of the same period showing colors of chalk white, greasy blue, greasy Cheyenne pink, light green, greasy white, faceted cobalt, and more. The pockets are constructed from old trade calico clothe with braded hide flaps having beaver fur tops. The entire edge shows a beaver hide edge which extends on the inside edge, pocket flap, collar and cuff edge. The beadwork, fringe and beaver hide extends to the back as well showing a fine beaded collar which covers over the shoulders. The bottom edge of the cot has a fine cute very short fringe, a unique attribute. This is truly a rare scarcely seen scout coat from the Cree Indians showing a well-preserved condition with little to no bead loss and supple hide, overall very good for its age and use. Measures 34”T by 68”L across the arms.
