Cowboy Spaghetti Fringe Shotgun Leather Chaps
Included in this lot is a pair of Western Cowboy Spaghetti Fringe Shotgun Leather Chaps circa 1960's. The “shotgun” chaps, also called “stovepipes”, were originally created to be loose fitting for comfort but today are commonly seen at horse shows as having a snug fit. These chaps are better at trapping body heat, helping to keep the rider warm in snowy or windy conditions. Chaps also offer protection from rope burns, injuries caused by livestock and generally make the ride more comfortable. Even the fringes on the edges of chaps serve a purpose. Similar to a horse's feathers, these narrow pieces of leather help conduct the water off the chaps in rainy weather. This pair of medium brown leather shotgun chaps are in nice overall condition, the leather is very supple, the zippers are heavy duty, and the belt and buckle are solid. Stitching is intact, initials "J J" were at one time stitched to the bottom right leg, a faint imprint is still visible. No other obvious marring noted. Approximate adjustable waist size is 34" - 42" x 40"L
