Confederate issue Griswold & Gunnison Navy size percussion revolver in .36 caliber with brass frame, serial number 946. The revolver remains in original good to very good condition showing a brown patina finish with some scattered light tomoderate pitting and erosion. The cylinder and barrel shows some striations and casting flaws in the original manufacturing process. The brass frame shows a mellow and pleasing patina. The edges are fairly sharp. The frame, cylinder, hammer and lever have an identical patina and a great untouched “Out-Of-The-Attic” look. There are some minor marks on the edges of wedge and metal surfaces show just normal use and aging. The grips are well-made old replacements probably duringperiod of use and are not quite shaped properly but have age. A shim of brass is used to tighten the cylinder on the arbor. The frame pins are old replacements made of brass. The main spring is cracked and shows an old leather reinforcement. The gun works and operates but the action is weak. All screws appear original and this is an above average example of the 1st model Griswold and Gunnison. The collection of William A. Gary consigned from his estate. Est.: $14,000-$28,000
