Confederate high hump back, .58 caliber two band rifle made from parts captured at Harpers Ferry with barrel made at Fayetteville and the lock made at Richmond which were assembled at Fayetteville Arsenal on captured Harpers Ferry machinery. Thebarrel shows two brass bands and is 33” in length and .58 caliber with a stud for a bayonet. The breech end of the barrel shows V. P. and 1862 (identified by Gary as Fayetteville, N.C. proofs. Note**Inventory card included**). The metalsurfaces show light to moderate pitting and some light cleaning long ago which is now aging back. The stock shows repairs and minor restorations but is at least good. The brass mounts also have been lightly polished. A period ramrod is included. The action works well and the bore is still fairly crisp. Generally the rifle is good to very good overall and absolutely authentic. William A. Gary collection consigned by his estate. Est.: $7,000-$14,000
