Colt pocket Navy (conversion) to .38 caliber rimfire 4-1/2” octagon plugged barrel, 1871/72 patent dates. C-type frame with no loading gate. Nickel finish, varnish wood grips, serial #18612. Shows round cylinder and serial numbered in own range. These revolvers have long been erroneously labeled as conversion where they were actually a new model breech loading pistol where the Colt factory used up percussion parts. Refer Refer Variations of Colt New Police and Pocket Breech Loading Pistols by Breslin, Pirie, and Price page 70-71. Flayderman 5B-127. The pistol shows approx. 85-95% original nickel, some peeling and flaking on the backstrap and some small losses at edges and muzzle. The pistol remains in very good plus to near fine condition. There are some minor storage type scratches and mars and a few dings. The cylinder shows 90% plus original cylinder scene. The varnish wood grips are very good with 40-60% varnish, some wear at the edges, small losses at the toes, but at least very good plus overall. The hammer shows traces of case hardening. The action is tight, the interior very good. The barrel address and markings are very sharp. The cylinder shows percussion #8040 and
