Colt model 1878 double-action frontier revolver, .45 Colt caliber, 4-3/4” barrel, nickel plated, ivory grips, shipped to Lee Fried & Co. Omaha, Nebraska, February 22, 1887, two guns in shipment, with all features confirmed by factory letter except grips (not listed), serial #17738. An original to the period western-style double-loop holster, marked “W. R. Bennett & Co. Omaha, Neb.” In a circular stamp, with square bottom andcartridge belt with harness buckle, and original Union Stockyards guard badge #211, marked “J. R. Cooke Co/Mfrs/Omaha” on reverse. Carl A. Fried was an early Nebraska pioneer who original emigrated from Swedenand ran a hardware store between 1873 and 1887. The revolver remains in good original condition with 50-70% original nickel evenly drifting and toning on cylinder and muzzle. Areas where finish has lifted have gone todark patina with some pitting and erosion. The trigger and back of hammer show 30-50% blue. The markings are good, grips are very good and fit impeccably and are Colt grips, just slightly undersized but appear to have
