Colt model 1862 Police (conversion) to .38 rimfire caliber with fluted 62-police type cylinder, 4-1/2” barrel, nickel plated, loading gate and recoil shield added, Colt’s patent on left side of frame, serial #842 in own range. Refer Flayderman 5B-130. Also refer Variations of Colt New Police and Pocket Breech Loading Pistols by Breslin, Pirie, and Price page 50-54. This revolver shows the scarcer fluted cylinder with rebated back utilizing percussion cylinder and was produced in own serial number range as cartridge pistol. The revolver retains approx 50-70% original nickel, drifting on the cylinder, back of frame, and recoil shield area. The edges are crisp, the markings are sharp, areas where nickel has lifted have gone to an uncleaned natural grey-brown patina. The varnish wood grips are very good with 75-85% varnish, some wear at the edges, and some heavier wear at the right bottom edge, but at least very good overall. All matching visible serial numbers. Tight action. Bright bore. A fairly scarce New Model breech loading cartridge revolver. Est: $1,500 - $3,000
