Colt model 1860 Army revolver, US martially marked, Springfield-Richards type conversion to .44 caliber (S&W?). All matching serial numbers and US markings, stamped “6 BOLLEKAR” on the right, “C BOLLEKAR” on the left sideof triggerguard. A research article entitled Is This A Model? (The Rampant Colt, Summer 2004) by Neal Humble features and describes this exact Colt #1147. The article documents #1131, 1148, 1201, and 1216 as U.S.inspectors guidance models and the question being, what is the identity of C. Bollekar. It is speculated that he was a gunsmith at the armory, possibly in charge of these conversions. The article was followed by Yes, it is a model! (The Rampant Colt, Spring 2005) also by Mr. Humble. A copy of both articles is included with the lot. The pistol shows “M” and “A” inspections on most of the major component parts, and a small “US” onthe left side of barrel lug by wedge screw. Normally these Springfield-Richards are found mismatched, but this example is completely matching. The revolver remains in good original condition showing a brown patina
