Colt model 1849 pocket model, .31 caliber percussion, 3” barrel, no rammer, so called “Wells Fargo” variation, serial #122093. The revolver remains in good original condition showing a grey to brown original finish, some scattered light to moderate erosion and some slightly heavy pitting on cylinder and breech of barrel. The cylinder shows 20-30% cylinder scene, the edges show some wear at the muzzle and there are some dings and mars toward the forward left front of barrel. The barrel address is good, Colt’s patent marking good on frame and cylinder. The backstrap and triggerguard show 20-30% original silver. The grips are good with 40-60% varnish, normal wear at the edges, slight scratches, minor imperfections. All matching visible serial numbers, good action, fair to good interior. The revolver is absolutely original and shows the small “8” beneath the serial number, frame, and backstrap, which is commonly found on the Wells Fargo variation and experts agree it was some sort of factory designation for the 3” pocket or Wells Fargo, but no exact determination of why the number “8” was used. A scarce to rare variation with estimates of approx. 500 – 1,000 produced. Est: $1,500 -
