Colt lightning pump-action magazine-fed baby carbine, .44-40 caliber, 20” lightweight barrel, blue finish, wood stocks, shipped to Winchester repeating arms co, New York February 10, 1900, 6 guns in shipment, serial #85803. The carbine shows Imperial German Proof Marks and believed to have been used by the Kaiser’s home guards. The lightweight baby carbine shows 80-90% original blue finish showing some drifting and toning to patina on the frame and edges, generally sharp and crisp overall with generally sharp markings, correct carbine parts and rear sight, horse visible on left side of frame. Frame shows some slight scratches, the wood is very good plus to near fine and fits the metal purposely. The action is tight, the bore is bright, and the carbine has seen little use. Baby carbines with high finish are always desirable and this is the only one currently known to collectors with Imperial German proofs. Est: $6,000 - $10,000
