Colt first-model sporting rifle, .36 caliber percussion, 30” octagon to round barrel, originally made for oiler device to be mounted on left side of frame, which it and the ramrod and ramrod stud at front of muzzle are missing and removed long ago during period of use. Serial #227. Refer Flayderman 5B-074. The barrel shows a stamped barrel address which is fully legible. The frame has been dove-tailed and a rear sight inlaidduring period of use. The front sight is a blade and post type with the blade missing. The metal surfaces are good with a medium to dark brown patina. Some scattered light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting. Thewood is good to very good with some minor scratches and mars. The center pin shows some mars at its edges from rough removal, but the rifle is generally good overall, just shows honest wear and use. The cylindershows some dings and mars. A very early serial number and a desirable Colt. Est: $2,500 - $5,000
