Colt detective special, .38 special, 2” barrel revolver, commercial blued finish, checkered wood medallion grips showing military firebomb proof at top of frame, in near fine original condition showing 90-95% original blue. Serial number 47378. Factory letter confirms features , except stock not listed. Sold to United States Government, shipped to Transportation Officer, Camp Richey, High Field MA (Near Washington DC) for military intelligence corps depot, March 16, 1942. Factory order number 4152, 800 guns in shipment. The revolver shows sharp edges, crisp markings, fine to excellent bore, fine to excellent grips, just some slight carry and use and a Boyt 1943-dated US-stamped holster period modified for 2” revolver with cut off front and brass rivet with brass riveted holster loop. The holster is brown russet leather and at least very good plus, and appears to have always been with this pistol. In over 40 years in selling the best collector’s Colts, this cataloger has only offered one other detective special with military markings for sale and it was not documented to military intelligence. Little John's will pay for packing and materials. Buyer pays actual costs of shipping and insurance. All International purchases will be sent to an exporter for shipment to foreign countries.
