Colt conversion of police or pocket Navy to .38 caliber rim-fire with 3 ½” round barrel, 1871-72 patent dates, nickel plated, varnished wood grips, serial number 2540. This model Colt has been long termed by collectors as a conversion but was actually made as a cartridge arm when it left the factory just using left over percussion parts. The revolver retains 85% to 95% original nickel. Shows some serious dings and mars on the right side of the barrel over the wedge area and on the edges from hammering. The barrel address and patent markings are sharp and clear. Most of the cylinder scene remains. The varnished wood grips are very good plus with at least 75% to 85% original finish showing some wear at the edges. The screws show bright original blue and the hammer shows case hardening. All matching visible serial numbers. Good action, good interior, and bright blue on firing pin. Est.: $750 -$1,500.
