Colt Woodsman .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol factory engraved with blue finish and checkered wood grips, serial number 27366. Factory letter confirms configuration and shows factory engraved by Colt masterengraver W. H. Gough, sold to Murta-Appleton Company, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 27, 1922, 2 guns in shipment. The gun was shipped on Colt factory order number 3783/2. A documenting letter by noted Colt Woodsmanexpert Maj. Robert J. Rayburn mentions this engraved Colt was in the R. E. Hable collection and later in the Albert Brichaux collection and is pictured in “Colt Pistols” by Wilson and Hable. Only approximately 150Colt Woodsmans were factory engraved in the pre-war era. This Colt remains in fine to near excellent original condition showing the 95% to 98% original blue. Some slight thinning, minor handling and just beginningnormal age. The select checkered dark walnut grips are also very good plus to near fine showing just slight wear at high points. The engraving pattern is a B+ to C with fancy and intricate scrolls by Gough.
