Colt U.S. Cavalry Series single action revolver, .45 cal., 7-1/2" barrel, Ainsworth inspected, returned to arsenal and refurbished for Spanish American War, serial #3610. An authenticating letter from notedexpert, John A. Kopec recants number 3610 was a new listing in the database. Serial #3632 was a 7th Cavalry revolver, and #3667 belonged to Company D, 6th Cavalry. In the book, "Colt Cavalry and Artillery Revolvers", #3632 was found 6 miles from the Custer battlefield in 1880. Also, #3615, #3623, #3625 and #3640 are documented 4th Calvary guns sent to Texas. Kopec states the revolver was completely correct with veryfaint outline of "O. W. Ainsworth" cartouche on left. He further states the full blue finish was applied at a Government Arsenal; however he could not establish absolutely that it was the Manila Arsenal, but it is apossibility.
