Colt Third Model Dragoon cut for shoulder stock, fully and finely engraved by L. D. Nimschke, nickel plated, select burl wood stocks, serial #17243. This well recognized Colt Dragoon, formerly in the collection ofCharles D. Cook, sold by James Serven in the early 1950s, the J. P. Altmeyer collection, the William Locke collection and the George Repaire collection, and consigned by the estate of Johnny Woodard. The Dragoon isfinely Nimschke engraved with deluxe and deep cut broad scrolls, in a fancy and deluxe manner, extending onto the barrel in front of the lug on the cylinder, completely engraved on the frame; hammer, backstrap and triggerguard in classic Nimschke motifs. The Dragoon shows 40-60% original to-the-period nickel plate which is drifted and toned nicely, just minor erosion starting where the nickel has lifted. The plating iscompletely uncleaned and a nice satin color. The markings are sharp, the edges are crisp, the grips are near fine with 90% varnish and a beautiful burl wood grain.
