Colt Single Action Army revolver in .38-40 caliber with 4 ¾” barrel. Western decorated in style similar to Canyon City spurs with select handmade one-piece walnut grips with flaming burl wood grain, serial number 153895. The revolver shows small brass inlays with circles, punch dots, crosshatching and other decoration which is strikingly similar to Western spurs. The ejector rod housing has been cut away and carved to add to the decorative effect. The revolver was lightly polished and fire blued when decorated and some of this finish remains. The front sight has been changed to a fancy target type. All matching visible serial numbers. Good action, good bore, good overall with legible patent dates, caliber marking and rampant Colt trademark. Gale Kennedy was an active spur collector and he showed this pistol too many advance spur collectors who also thought it may be decorated by a spur maker at Canyon City. Factory letter confirms caliber and barrel length shipped nickel with stocks not listed to Schmelzer & Sons, Kansas city, KS on March 3rd 1894 and only one gun in shipment. Gale Kennedy Historical West Collection. Est.: $6,000 -$12,000.
