Colt Single Action Army revolver in .32-20 caliber, 4 ¾” barrel, finely scroll engraved in Western motif by Cole Agee with documenting letter by Jink Howard and photograph of him holding this revolver, serial number 218716 in his right hand. Mr. Howard authored the book “Cole Agee--Texas Engraver” and his letter authenticates the engraving by Agee and also attributes the carving of Buffalo in relief on the right grip. The original factory letter confirms caliber, barrel length, and originally shipped blue to Speer Hardware Company, Fort Smith, Arkansas on December 8, 1901 with 4 guns in shipment. The revolver shows approximately 50% to 70% old gold plated finish that is drifting and toning nicely to a mellow bronze color. The barrel address and patent dates are still legible and the front sight has been slimed slightly. All matching visible serial numbers, good action, fair to good bore. One of the most attractive single actions we have seen engraved by this famous Texas engraver. A copy of the book by Jink Howard is included with this lot. Gale Kennedy historical West collection. Est.: $4,000-$8,000.
