Colt Single Action Army revolver, .45 caliber, barrel reduced to 4-7/8”, nickel finish, ivory grips, serial #61196. Factory letter lists sold to United Stated Government, December 18th, 1880, 200 inshipment, originally blue. The revolver shows DFC inspections on frame, barrel, and serial numbered cylinder. The Colt is obviously an overrun and returned to the factory, who nickeled it and resold it with ivory grips. The back of the left triggerguard bow shows a .45 caliber stamp. The revolver retains approx. 60-80% old nickel finish, areas where the nickel has lifted have gone to a darkish patina with some light to moderate erosionand pitting in these areas. The barrel was shortened long ago and the front sight made of a silver coin. The barrel address is good, the three-line patent dates slightly light. The ivory grips are good to very good andslightly undersize as they have shrunk a little, with some yellowing and age cracking. The initial “H” is neatly cut into top left grip. All matching visible serial numbers, good action, good bore. Est: $3,500 - $5,500
