Colt Single Action Army revolver, .45 caliber, 7-1/2” barrel, renickeled finish, hardrubber grips, gold screws and trim, hardrubber eagle grips, serial #88430. Backstrap period inscribed Colonel Jonas S.Rice, Houston Light Guard, 1885. Serial #88430. Factory letter dated June 19th, 1958 to note Colt Collector Richard Dick Neff of Houston mentions the arm was shipped to Scheverling Daly and Gales in New York City,February 24th, 1883, originally nickel finish, rubber grips, barrel length not listed. S.D.&G. were allies with the Colt factory and employed New York engravers who probably engraved this inscription. Thepistol was completely refinished in modern times and the metal was polished aggressively. The markings are light or removed from polishing. Mr. Dick Neff was a relative of J. S. Rice, and this pistoldescended in his family until we sold it for his estate. Rice was a businessman and civic leader in the Houston area. He was involved with the Texas State prison system and was active in the National Guard. He was a member
