Colt Single Action Army revolver, .45-caliber, 4-3/4” barrel, 2nd Generation. Finely engraved by Bill Johns, serial #57327SA, nickel plated, gold and silver handmade ornate grips with carved and tooledquickdraw holster. Pictured on page 520 of Colt Engraving. This revolver was made on custom order for George E. Virgines, author of Saga of the Colt Six-shooter and other books and articles on Colt Single Actions.Virgines was a old-time collector, quickdraw artist, and exhibition shooter who was also an active member of The Westerners group. Pistol shows approx. 98% to 99% plus original finish, some slight handling and minor use.The left grip is nicely engraved with gold inlays of Rampant Colt, Aztec calendar, and fancy escutcheon around screw. Right grip also shows Rampant Colt, fancy escutcheon, and initials, “GEV”. The holster is marked“J. Hawker Custom Holsters” and shows two Western-type buckles. Initials “GEV” penned on interior.
