Colt Single Action Army .45 LC SN: 171874
This revolver was manufactured in what is known as the "Blackpowder Transition" period. Serial numbers 165,000-182,000 (1896-1899) to distinguish SAA's made with modern, stronger frames yet still considered antique by federal law that uses 01-01, 1899 as the beginning off the modern gun era. Single-Action. 6-rd capacity. 1st Generation manufactured 1897. 5.5" barrel with front blade and v-notch rear sights. Top of barrel stamped "COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG. CO HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." Patent dates on the left frame, with Rampant Colt in circle. "45 Cal" stamped on left barrel. The serial number matches on the frame, triggerguard, and backstrap, Assembly # 176 on the loading gate. Comes with Colt factory letter which interestingly states the revolver was shipped July 29, 1897 in .44-40 cal. the .45 cal barrel, & cylinder, appear to have been on the gun for a very long time with matching finish & wear, shipped to Hartley & Graham in NYC with nickel finish,& hard rubber grips. Bore is good with strong rifling, scattered areas of pitting are present. Cylinders appears good. Action is crisp, and hammer locks up tight. Traces of the original nickel finish are present on the hammer, top of the backstrap, triggerguard, & the ejector housing. It now has real vintage stag grips, good overall with a small crack on the bottom left grip. An Interesting SAA. NRA Condition-Very Good. Antique Firearm.
