This is an increasingly rare original Colt Single Action Army Model 1873 revolver showing a .45 Colt caliber and was manufactured in 1883. The revolver is a very scarcely seen factory error firearm, Colt’s records show serial number 100500 as being a nickel finish firearm with this revolver showing a factory original case hardening and blue finish. The revolver also shows the “45 COLT” mark on the side of the 7 ½ inch blue finish barrel. It is believed that the pistol was ordered as nickel, but the order was not fulfilled and the firearm was later issued in circa 1890 with the later “45 COLT” marked barrel. Offered for sale is a surprisingly fine condition example of a Colt Single Action Army .45 Colt Cal Revolver. The revolver shows matching serial numbers on the butt, trigger guard, frame and cylinder and correctly marked on the barrel top “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG Co HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.” It has the correct three-line patent dates of 1871, 1872 and 1875 as used on revolvers from the 34000 serial number range up to about the 135000 serial number range. The pistol retains fine barrel blue with normal gray streak on left side from holster carry, also exc. blue in the ejector housing flutes and on trigger guard, cylinder flutes and all protected areas with the balance aged naturally gray/brown and showing no signs of excessive cleaning or scrubbing, exc. screws, correct early style hammer, correct early black powder era eagle motif hard rubber grips. The revolver even retains some good case colors on the forward part of the frame. Fine action and solid lockup. Very difficult to find early 1880s .45 Colt Single Actions in fine unaltered original condition with good blue remaining and matching serial numbers having a factory error. A very fine early frontier Colt. This would be a prize for any advanced Colt or Old West collection. Antique firearm, NO FFL transfer or NICS background check required. Serial number is 100500. The firearm will letter from Colt as being a nickel finish revolver, but it is a factory original blue and case-hardened finish. The firearm has been examined by a Colt and antique firearms expert and was found to have the original finish from manufacture.
