Colt Single Action Army .44 Rimfire Revolver with Ivory Grips

Estimate: $6500 - 12000
This is a professionally restored example of a Colt Single Action Army revolver that was chambered for the .44 rimfire cartridge. Only 1,863 Single Action Army revolvers were chambered in this caliber. The 44 rimfire series was introduced in 1875 and they were serial numbered in their own range. The top of the barrel is marked with the one line block letter address, "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A." and the left side of the frame is marked with the two line, two patent date marking. The matching serial numbers are marked on the bottom of the barrel under the ejector housing, on the frame, trigger guard, cylinder and back strap. The hammer well is marked with the letter "C". The loading gate is marked with the assembly number "769". The hammer is original to the revolver and has a bordered checkered spur and is equipped with a riveted rimfire firing pin. The revolver is all nickel finished with a blade front and "V" notch rear sights, later curved ejector rod head and fitted with a one-piece smooth ivory grip.
BBL: 7 1/2 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 44 RF
Finish: nickel
Grips: ivory
Serial Number: 1249
Condition: Professionally restored to Colt period specifications using a mixture of original and custom made non-factory parts. The revolver retains 90% nickel finish which is flaking on the bottom of the barrel and ejector housing. The cylinder shows some blistering. Areas of the finish are beginning to frost. The grip is a bit loose and remains very good with a couple hairline age cracks. The markings are clear. The action is excellent. This would most definitely suffice as a representative example of a 44 RF Single Action Army style revolver in a collection!
