Colt SAA revolver, .44-40 caliber, 7.5” barrel, S/N 50832, in overall good condition with mis-matched back strap (33437) with old initials “JR” engraved into butt strap, period ivory grips, grey patina to metal surfaces with scatteredlight to moderate areas of pitting; good action, bore and markings; classic old ivory grips that show age cracking, some shrinkage and 10 notches carved into the left grip. Accompanied by a Colt factory letter confirming caliber, barrel length“not listed”, blued finish, shipped to J.P. Moores Sons, New York, NY on February 5, 1879, fifty guns in shipment. Also with a handwritten letter from our consignor who indicates he obtained the gun approximately 40 years ago from an old cowboywho worked in the ooil fields of West Texas and New Mexico. There is a second Colt factory letter included that is for the S/N of the backstrap indicating it was from SAA shipped to Spies, Kissam & Co., New York, NY on Dec. 30, 1876, alsofifty guns in that shipment.
