Colt Model 1911 U.S. Property marked, .45 ACP cal., high polish commercial quality blue finish, diamond checkered wood grips, serial #1176, shipped to Commanding Officer, Springfield Armory, March 2, 1912 in ashipment of 200 pistols, serial #1001 through #1200; with letter confirming early features including 1897 patent date on slide, forward serial number on right side of frame, early U.S. property markings, fire blue smallparts, rounded rear sight and other early variations. The letter on "Gun Report" stationery is signed by editor and Colt auto expert Scott Meadows. The pistol shows 50-70% original blue finish with some eventoning and aging, light beginning erosion, and losses at the high points and operating areas. The markings are sharp and crisp; there are a few scratches and the metal condition is pleasing. The grips are verygood with minor staining and aging; the lanyard bottom clip is original but of slightly later production. The action good, the bore bright, and all correct small parts.
