For your consideration is a Colt Model 1902 Sporting .38 ACP caliber pistol. The Model 1902 is a semi-automatic pistol developed by famous American firearms designer John Browning and produced by the Colt's Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company in the early 20th century. The Model 1902 was not a new design, but rather an incremental improvement upon the nearly identical M1900, and would transition from the 1900 into three distinct but related pistols with the same action and cartridge, the 1902 Sporting Model, the 1902 Military model, and the 1903 Pocket Hammer model. The 1902 Sporting model was so similar to the 1900 that it continued the serial number range. This 1902 Sporting Model has a manufacture date of 1906 and utilizes a 6” round blue’d barrel. The slide and frame show a faded blue finish. The black hard rubber grips are checkered with "COLT" in a ribbon at the top of the grip and the circled Rampant Colt motif in the center. The left of the slide is stamped “Patented Apr. 20.1897. Sept.9.1902. Colt’s Patent Fire Arms MFG. CO. Hartford Conn. U.S.A.” while the right side reads “Automatic Colt Calibre 38 Rimless Smokeless”. The left side of the trigger guard is stamped with the Colt "Triangle/VP" proof mark and "1" assembler's mark. The pistol has the distinctive short Sporting Model frame without a slide lock, seven-shot magazine, first style slide with plunge milled grip serrations at the front, early style stub hammer and dovetail mounted half-moon rear sight. The firearm shows good condition with a gray patina indicative of age. Serial Number: 9289 being manufactured in 1906. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
