Colt Model 1878 DA revolver, .45 Colt cal., 7-1/2” barrel, nickel finish, checkered black hard rubber grips, #14,492. This interesting gun is also marked “260. MD.” on the left side of the frame and is accompanied by acopy of a letter dated Aug. 24, 1997, indicating the gun was purchased from the nephew of Thane MacDowell in 1988 and indicating MacDowell was the recipient of the Victoria Cross in WW I and was the Colonelof the Brockville Rifles for a number of years; also a copy of a 1997 Colt factory letter confirming features and indicating the gun was shipped to Hartley & Graham of New York on April 10, 1885 in a shipment of 150guns. The marking on the frame indicates Canadian Government purchase to deal with the Riel Rebellion with some later being used in South Africa in the Boer War; the nickel finish is approx. 99% and may be an expertperiod Canadian arsenal re-finish, very good bore, crisp action, very good markings, fine grips, lanyard ring retained; also included is a copy of an RCMP GRC weapon registration certificate issued to Victor Zubatiuk, the
