Colt Model 1872 open top .44 rim fire caliber revolver with factory 7 ½” barrel, iron back strap and trigger guard of Army size with genuine to the period ivory grips, serial number 2528. Factory letter states “Shipped to Spies Kissam &Company, New York, New York, August 12, 1873, 25 guns in shipment” with blue finish, barrel length and caliber confirmed but the grips not listed. The metal surfaces remain in good original condition with even patina and some scatteredlight to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting. There are some dings, mars and scratches but generally good to very good overall. The barrel address and patent marks are good and clear. There is traces of cylinder scene but very faint. Theivory grips fit impeccably and shows some small losses and scorching from lifting wire handled pots out of the camp fire. The firing pin on the hammer shows an old replacement or repair and the ejector rod head also an old repair orreplacement. The action is tight and the bore is slightly rough but the barrel has never been stretched. A very acceptable early frontier era Colt open top that appears to have went West. Est.: $4000-$8000
