This gun is in overall good to very good condition and is picturedin McDowell’s book; approx. 60% nickel finish with balance gone to an uncleaned dark patina with some bubbling of the nickel on the right side of the barrel; crisp action, fair to good bore with some areas of erosion; good markings, all matching visible serial numbers except the cylinder that is un-numbered but consistent in condition with the balance of the gun and with approx. 90% original cylinder scene; grips are overallgood showing lots of wear, some shrinking and beautiful age cracklature, graining and color; the raised carving of the Mexican snake and eagle is well-accomplished and equally attractive. A classic Colt Open Topthat “speaks” of Southwestern or Mexican use; a highly sought after Colt as only approx. 7,000 of this Model were produced between 1872 and 1873 with most seeing hard use.
