Colt Model 1872 22 cal, 7 shot open top revolver with rare early firing pin and 2-7/8” barrel with ejector rod and housing, serial #294. The revolver shows the spike type firing pin (also called cone) whichpasses into a hole with closed top at back of frame. This is a very rare variation estimated only a few hundred produced and probably less than 50 known. The revolver remains in original good to very goodcondition with 50% original nickel mostly flaked on frame. The markings are sharp and metal is crisp with just some slight erosion and some pitting. The hammer, small parts and screws show most of their originalcolors. The varnish wood grips are very good plus with 75-85% varnish and just slight wear. The markings are sharp, the action works well. The area where the finish has flaked on the frame shows a good patina. Inover forty-two years of selling rare Colts we have seen less than ten of this early variation for sale. Est.;$3,000-$6,000.
