Manufactured in 1872 , this is one of approximately 24,000 Model 1862 Police and Pocket Navy revolvers that were converted to cartridge between 1873 and 1880. The frame is machined at the recoil shield and is fitted with a conversion plate that is notched for the rimfire firing pin. The rebated cylinder has been altered by cutting off the breech end but leaving the teeth. The loading lever has been removed and an ejector rod and housing mounted on the right side of the barrel. The top of the barrel is marked "ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA". The cylinder is roll engraved with the stagecoach holdup scene and numbered "5185". The left side of the frame is marked with the two line patent dates and "36 CAL" is stamped on the left side of the trigger guard shoulder. The barrel is numbered "44798" and the frame, trigger guard and back strap are numbered "45185". Fitted with a smooth one-piece ivory grip.

Condition: Fine as assembled (barrel mismatched number). The revolver retains 75% of the nickel finish with scattered flaking. The trigger guard retains most of the silver plating and the backstrap retains 30% which is blistering. The exposed brass has an aged patina. The grip is fine with a couple of minor age cracks and a pleasant mellow patina. The markings and cylinder scene are clear. The action is fine.
