Colt Model 1861 percussion musket, .58 caliber, 40” barrel, No S/N, dark patina, full length wood stock. This desirable Civil War era musket is in “out-of-the-attic” condition showing a heavy dark uncleaned patina to metal surfaces. The action is good, the markings visible with the lockplate dated 1863. The wood stock also shows a heavy dark patina and is in good overall condition with scattered mars, scratches and some staining from carry and storage. The top of the butt plate is marked “U.S.” and the bolster of the percussion nipple displays a spread American eagle. The left side of the barrel at the breech is proofed with the standard “V” and “P” over an eagle head. The front barrel band is long missing. This gun is accompanied by a typed note stating the following: “History of this muzzle Loader; My parents purchased the farm in Pennsylvania in April of 1921, from the Kallsar family. The seller said that the gun belonged to their son who fought in the battle of Gettsburg. They were in their early 80’s and said that they had no use for the gun. Ted Revak”.
