This is an example of a factory converted Colt Model 1861 percussion revolver to be used with rimfire cartridges. Manufactured in most cases using new parts. The loading lever is removed, the barrel lug plugged and an ejector rod is attached to the right side of the barrel lug. The rear of the cylinder is milled off, the recoil shield milled down and a loading gate is added. Two rivets attach the rimfire firing pin to the hammer. One line New York barrel address is marked on top of the barrel, "COLTS/PATENT" on left side of frame, "36 CAL" on left trigger guard shoulder, and Texas Navy scene on cylinder. Matching numbers on barrel, frame, trigger guard, and back strap, and the loading gate is numbered "1728". Fitted with a smooth one-piece walnut grip.
BBL: 7 1/2 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 38 RF
Finish: blue/casehardened/silver
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 1149
Condition: Fair as refinished overall. The barrel is mostly a smooth brown artificial patina with smooth artificial gray patina on the cylinder, with most of the scene remaining. There are a few areas of minor pitting. Traces of original silvered out plating remain in the protected areas of the back strap found at the top and strong amounts of silvered out plating on the trigger guard, with the exposed brass having a polished appearance. The revarnished, undersized grip is good with a few minor pressure dents on the bottom and a few minor handling marks overall. Mechanically fine.
