This is an example of a Colt Model 1861 revolver that was manufactured in 1862 and later converted to fire the .38 center fire cartridge. The barrel is marked with the one line New York address and has had the loading lever removed, holes plugged and an ejector rod (plain head) with housing added to the right side. The Texas Navy battle scene roll engraved cylinder numbered "61226" and has been milled down as part of the conversion, with a breech plate, loading gate (509) and center fire hammer firing pin added. The left side of the frame is marked with the two line patent dates behind "COLTS/PATENT". The matching serial number is marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap. Fitted with a smooth one-piece walnut grip.

Condition: Very good. The metal surfaces have a bright appearance with traces of blue finish present on the underside of the ejector housing and protected areas of the barrel. The frame has traces of casecolors. The brass has an aged patina. The grip is good with a small chip on each toe, some lower edge wear and minor dings and dents. There is an identification label affixed to the lower left side. The cylinder scene is visible and the markings are clear. The action is fine.
