The top of the barrel is marked "-ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-" and the left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT". The cylinder is roll engraved with the naval battle scene. The left side of the Factory replacement barrel, near the wedge screw is marked with a military inspector small "M". The barrel, wedge and cylinder are un-numbered (never have been serialized replacements), the arbor pin is marked "500" and the frame, (169500), trigger guard, (18793), and back strap, (169508) are mis-matched. Blade front and hammer notch rear sights, brass trigger guard and fitted with smooth one-piece walnut grips.

Condition: Fine as assembled with 50% original blue finish on the barrel and cylinder, (rebated portion only), with areas of smooth brown patina and a small area of minor pitting on the barrel and a smooth brownish gray patina, a small area of pitting on the cylinder, with 95% visible scene. The frame shows traces of the original case colors, mainly in the protected areas. The back strap retains 20% original blue finish, concentrated at the top and on the butt, with a brown spotted patina on the balance. The trigger guard has an aged patina. The replacement, revarnished grip is good with the varnish cracking and several dents on the bottom. The markings are clear. The action is excellent. Writer is not sure of the origin, except that it is known that a number of U.S. Colt Model 1860's were rebuilt for the Indian Wars in the Post-Civil War era.
