This fine Colt Model 1851 Navy revolver was manufactured after the Civil War, in 1867. The revolver has a commercial blue finish on the barrel and cylinder, casehardened loading lever, frame and hammer, silver-plated brass back strap and trigger guard and one-piece varnished walnut grip. This late Fourth Model Navy revolver has a large rounded brass trigger guard, thick loading lever catch, capping channel in the recoil shield cut-out, beveled loading cut-out in the barrel lug and knurled, bordered and underlined hammer spur. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped "-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-". The left side of the frame is stamped "COLTS/PATENT" in two lines and "36 CAL" is stamped on the left shoulder of the trigger guard. The cylinder is roll-engraved with the Texas navy battle scene and "COLTS PATENT No". "ENGAGED 16 MAY 1843" is stamped along the forward edge of the cylinder. The full serial number, "200080" is stamped on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard and back strap. The partial serial number, "0080" is stamped on the cylinder. The loading lever is not serial numbered. All of the visible serial numbers match.
BBL: 7 1/2 inch octagon
Stock:
Gauge: 36 percussion
Finish: blue/casehardened
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 200080
Condition: Very good. The revolver retains 50% of the original blue finish. There are small dents and scratches around the wedge slots on either side of the barrel lug. The cylinder retains most of the naval scene. The cylinder pins are battered. The loading lever, frame and hammer retain 30% of the faded case colors. Traces of the silver plated finish are present on protected areas of the trigger guard and back strap. The brass has a mellow, untouched patina. The slightly undersize grip has been re-finished and is in good condition with minor handling wear. The markings on the barrel, frame and cylinder are crisp. The action is tight and functions well. This is a very good example of a late production, post-Civil War, Colt Model 1851 Navy revolver.
