Colt Model 1851 Navy Cartridge Conversion Revolver

Estimate: $2250 - 3250
This is an example of a Colt Model 1851 Navy Revolver which was factory converted or manufactured to fire the .38 centerfire cartridge by Colt. These conversions were done in the mid-1870s and were manufactured using unassembled and unfinished Model 1851 parts. Approximately 3,800 Model 1851 Cartridge Conversion Revolvers were manufactured. The loading lever has been removed with the hole unplugged and an ejector rod with a bulls-eye type head has been added. The frame is fitted with a loading gate and a centerfire breech plate. The centerfire firing pin is attached to the hammer by two rivets. Matching numbers on the barrel, frame, grip straps and cylinder with the assembly number "71" on the loading gate. The top barrel flat has the one line New York U.S. America marking, the two line/two date patent marking on the left side of the frame and fitted with a one-piece grip.
