This scarce Lower Canada Militia marked Colt Model 1851 London Navy revolver was manufactured in 1855 and is one of approximately 53 Model 1851 revolvers shipped to Company C, Second Montreal Troop. An estimated total of 255 Colt Model 1851 revolvers were issued to troops of Lower Canada (see, for example, Nathan Swayze's "51 COLT NAVIES", page 185). The left grip side of this revolver is boldly stamped "LC / C / 43". These markings represent Lower Canada, Company C, 43th Volunteer. Because Lower Canada 1851 Navies are London-London Models, the usual British proofmarks (Crown/V and Crown/GP) are found on the left barrel lug and alternately on the shoulders between the nipple recesses of the cylinder. The top of the barrel flat is marked "ADDRESS. COL: COLT. LONDON." with arrows at either end of the marking, "COLTS / PATENT" on the left side of the frame, and the Texas navy battle scene with "COLTS PATENT No" on the cylinder. Matching serial number on the frame, iron trigger guard, iron back strap, barrel, cylinder, loading lever, and wedge.
BBL: 7 1/2 inch octagon

Gauge: 36 percussion

Condition: Good as refurbished. The metal surfaces have a bright appearance with a mottled gray patina on the back strap. The Lower Canada markings are legible.
