Colt Model 1849 pocket model in .31 caliber percussion with 6” barrel, finely Gustave Young engraved with considerable original blue finish remaining and Burl wood grips, serial number 146735. The barrel shows 20% to 40% original blue that is evenly thinning and toning to a nice patina. The script barrel address is very legible and edges still fairly crisp. The cylinder shows 75% to 85% original cylinder scene with a trace of finish going to a light gray patina. The frame, loading lever and hammer show strong traces of case hardening mixed in with a silvery gray patina. The back strap and trigger guard show 40% to 60% darkened original silver plate. The varnished wood grips are very good plus with just slight edge wear, normal aging and about 85% plus original varnish. All matching visible serial numbers, good action and generally very good overall with some brilliant blue beneath the lever where protected. A collectors quality Colt 1849 with very typical Young engraving showing dog heads, florals, cob webs and hand cut Colts patent and barrel address. There is an old restoration to the lever at the catch area otherwise completely original. Keith and Lori Candee collection. Est.: $4,000-$8,000.
