Colt Model 1849 pocket model in .31 caliber percussion with 4” barrel, in original case with full accessories, serial number 294683. The barrel retains approximately 75% to 85% bright and inky blue finish. The front of the barrel on the right side has drifted and there is some minor erosion and pinprick pitting just starting where the metal is exposed. The edges are crisp and the barrel address is sharp. The cylinder shows nearly all its original scene and approximately 60% to 70% original thinning blue with a slight index line between the cylinder stops. The frame, hammer and loading lever show 70% to 80% original case hardening that is faded slightly with still visible areas of strong rainbow colors. The varnished wood grips are near fine with about 90% plus varnish showing just slight losses to the finish at the edges and some minor handling. The back strap and trigger guard show a light natural brass patina. This Colt shows a one line New York address with 6 shot cylinder there are some minor scratches and storage marks. The Colt is contained within an original colt case that shows an old good quality relining that would be almost undetectable except the partitions are slightly thick and not tapered correctly. The material is a correct cotton velveteen and a correct Colt color. The quality of the relining is excellent and would full most collectors but not experts. The flask shows 40% to 50% lacquer and is missing its spring. The mold shows 50% to 60% thinning blue and is marked 31 PKT with good cavities. The nipple wrench shows most of his original blue. The cap tin is marked for belt and pocket pistols. A working key is included. The exterior the box shows 75% plus of its original finish and retains its key plate. The box is correct just relined.
