For your consideration in this lot is a Colt Model of 1878 Frontier Six-Shooter, Double Action revolver, chambered for .44-40 WCF. The Frontier is accompanied by a factory Colt letter, from historian M.S. Huber. The Model 1878 was designed after the Colt Model of 1877, but was built on a larger frame to sustain structural integrity after firing large caliber rounds, such as the .45 Colt, and the .44-40. The factory letter that accompanies the revolver states date of shipment to August 4th, of 1900, and shipped to Sears, Roebuck & Co. of Chicago, Illinois. The revolver utilizes a 7 1/2" barrel, blue'd finish, Colt factory hard rubber grips, underlug cartridge extractor, and a butt lanyard swivel. The revolver is marked with correct roll-stamping, reading; "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" on the left side of the barrel, and "COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG Co HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.". The revolver shows very good condition overall, showing good remnants of blue finish, and excellent grips. The revolver shows good mechanical condition as well, with a tight action, in good timing, and a very good bore, showing very-strong rifling with minimal darkness. The cylinder lock-up has some slight play. The revolver qualifies as a Curio & Relic Handgun, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check. Serial Number: 42135.
