Manufactured in 1897, this is one of 976 Colt Bisley Flattop Target Revolvers manufactured and one of only 196 chambered for the 455 Eley. The top of the barrel is marked with the one line Hartford address, the left side is marked "(BISLEY MODEL) 455 ELEY" and the left side of the frame is marked with the two line, three patent dates followed by the circled Rampant Colt. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The assembly number "31" is marked on the loading gate. The bottom of the barrel at the breech is marked with a "crown/V" and "crown/GP" proof mark, and the two proofs are alternating in the cylinder flutes. Adjustable blade front sight and a U notch drift adjustable rear sight, distinctive wide hammer and humpback grip profile. Blue finish with polished hammer sides and fitted with smooth varnished walnut grips. The front interior grip strap has a filler screw installed. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, barrel length, blue finish, wood grips and that it was shipped as 1 of 10 to Colt's London Agency, 14 Pall Mall, London, England on June 21, 1897. Remarks state that records indicate a special sight, which is the front sight. The front sight, which fits over the standard blade can be replaced, in lieu of inserting a blade. (Very unique!) Complete in a wooden case with brass disk inset into the lid and purple felt lining. The case has 4 compartments and a 20 round bullet block, with 20 rounds of UMC 455 ammunition, a brass cleaning rod and glass oiler.
