Colt Lightning magazine-fed pump-action repeating rifle, large frame or ‘express’ model, .450-85-285 caliber, 28” octagon barrel, full magazine. Unusual carbine type butt, serial #579. The rifle shows .50-70%original blue on barrel and magazine tube evenly drifting and toning to a patina with some scattered erosion and pinprick pitting just starting. The edges are sharp, the markings are crisp, the frame shows 30-50%original blue that is drifting to patina with some scratches, light pitting and erosion, normal aging, and visible Rampant Colt. The barrel address and caliber markings are sharp. The forend is good with crispcheckering and shows and “H” initial carved on the left side. The buttstock is slightly undersized against the metal and shows some refinishing, losses at the edges, a crease or groove at the comb. The stock has been withthe rifle a long while and is slightly undersized and may be a replacement. Note: We have seen carbine buttplates on these express rifles occasionally.
