This item is a great example of an original Colt Model 1877 "Lightening" double action revolver. The firearm is accompanied by a Colt Factory letter, as well as a letter of appraisal. The pistol is chambered in .38 Long Colt, attributing it to the nickname "Lightening" - given to the revolver by Colt distributor; Benjamin Kittredge, who also nicknamed the Peacemaker, Thunderer, Rainmaker, and the Frontier model. The M1877 was the first successful US made double-action cartridge revolver - conceived by the same designer of the famed Colt Single Action Army, William Mason. This revolver in particular features a blued finish, two piece hard rubber (gutta-percha) birds head grips, 4 1/2" barrel, and a cartridge ejector. The revolver is marked with the trademark rampant colt logo on each side of the grips, as well as the left side of the frame. The left side of the frame is also marked "PAT.SEPT 16. 1871 - " " 5. "74 - ' JAN 19. "75". The left side of the barrel reads "COLT. D.A. 38". The top of the barrel reads "COLT'S PT F.A. MFG, Co. - HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A". The revolver is in good condition, with good remnants of blue finish on the barrel, and cylinder. Additionally, the grips immaculate condition. The mechanics of the revolver are very strong, with a tight action, good timing, and a good overall bore, and cylinder lock-up. The revolver is dated to 1902, qualifying it as a Curio & Relic Handgun, requiring FFL Transfer or NICS background Check. Serial Number: 134995.
