This is an example of a Commercial Government Model 1911 pistol was manufactured during World War I in 1917. The left side of the slide is marked with the two-line, two block patent dates and address with the Rampant Colt behind the serrations. The right side of the slide is marked "COLT AUTOMATIC/CALIBRE 45" ahead of the ejection port. The right side of the receiver is marked "GOVERNMENT MODEL" over the serial number, and the Colt triangle "VP" proof is on the front left of the trigger guard bow with a "Y" on the rear of the bow. The pistol features a smooth milled trigger, checkered slide stop and thumb safety, checkered wide spur hammer and a flat smooth mainspring housing with a lanyard ring on the butt. Fitted with checkered grips with diamond panels around the screws. Complete with a two-tone magazine. Included with this gun is some papers which include: Colt factory postcard sent evidently in response to a question a previous owner had about the gun, having some information and a note that the gun, according to the records, was manufactured in 1917, and an envelope from Colt's with a 1960s era Colt handbook on target shooting, an advertising sheet with products for sale, and a copy of instructions with specification and maintenance information. Also included is a full flap commercial leather holster, marked on the back "AUDLEY/PATENTED/OCT. 13, 1914". The holster has a leather leg tie attached and a wire belt hook attachment similar to the style used on U.S. military equipment, and has been altered from a drop style holster similar to a U.S. M1912 45 pistol holster. This pistol rig was most likely a private purchase weapon by an officer in a military or National Guard unit.

Condition: Very fine with 95% original finish showing scattered light scratches and edge wear mainly on the muzzle end of the slide (cold blue in this area). The refinished grips are very good showing minor handling marks, having a light coat of varnish, with sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The holster is good, showing some use and having a reinforced section of leather under the flap on the front coming loose.
