Colt Civilian Model SAA revolver, .44/40 cal., 7-1/2” etched panel barrel, nickel finish, period ivory grips, #46485 with factory letter confirming caliber with barrel length and grips “Not Listed”, finish noted as “Blue”; shipped to SpiesKissam & Co., New York, NY on Nov. 1, 1878, 20 guns in shipment. This Colt shows approx. 98% original-to-the-period nickel finish and a fully visible original etched panel. The circumstances related to Colt letters covering guns producedduring this time period and indicating “Blue” for finish on most nickel finish guns are known to Colt collectors. There remains traces of fire blue on the cylinder pin and on a number of the revolver’s screw heads; the bore is fine, theaction crisp and the markings are sharp; the numbers are all matching including the barrel. The period ivory grips were likely provided by Spies Kissam & Co. and are in fine condition with typical age cracks on the butt area. Anoutstanding example of an early blackpowder SAA. From the estate of Joe Kiser. (Antique). Est.: $10,000-$20,000.
