Colt 3rd model dragoon, .44 caliber percussion, 7-1/2” barrel, London series, factory engraved, hand-cut barrel address “Saml. Colt London”. Serial #2 with unusual burl wood grips secured by grip screw. The dragoon shows original London-style high quality scroll engraving with profuse engraved backstrap and trigger guard. The triggerguard bow shows a small W.R. stamp. The Colt shows traces of original blue mixed in with an even brown patina finish, scattered light moderate erosion and pinprick pitting, slightly heavier pitting on a few areas on the cylinder and muzzle. The cylinder retains 50-60% light original scene with model “USMR” and Colt’s Patent mostly visible and just slightly light. The pistol shows British proof marks and is generally very good overall with good edges. The backstrap and triggerguard show 30-40% drifting original silver plate and a nice patina where the finish has lifted. The varnish wood grips are absolutely original and show 40-60% original varnish slightly searing at the edges. All major parks are serial #2 including the rammer and the hammer!
