Colt 3rd Model dragoon, 44 cal percussion showing U.S. marked frame, serial #13701. The metal surfaces show a light patina with some faint traces of colors mixed in. There are some scattered light rust and erosion and some minor just starting pinprick pitting. The cyl shows slight traces of scene. The barrel address is good and sharp as is the patent dates. The barrel has been mounted with a “V” sight near the breech with a blade sight at the front and both are of the period. All matching visible serial numbers. The grips are good with losses at each toe and even wear and are slightly undersized from being carried. The barrel has been setback slightly on the pins (1/16 to a 32nd of an inch). The action works well. There is a small unidentified inspector’s mark on right side of frame and hammer and there is a “G” and “V” inspection mark on trigger guard.The grips are too worn to show a cartouche. The action is good and generally good overall. From an old N.Y. collector’s estate. Est.;$3,500-$7000.
